Website that lists areas inside a l/100/250 mile radius of a location?

I figure something like this must exist--or information technology should!

Does anyone know of a website that lists or lets y'all "draw" a radius of a certain distance and would list or show all the areas included?

For example, If I offset with New York City, It would show cities/boondocks within 50 miles (say Cold Spring, due north of the city) and up to nearly 250 miles (which would include DC and Boston).
Hotwire lets yous do something similar this when looking for a hotel (It'due south under a link that says "local trips" or something like that) merely I'm looking for something I tin can use on it'due south ain, and that isn't limited to large cities.
Information technology would be handy for daytrips, overnight trips, looking for alternative airports, stops forth the manner for road trips etc.

I'm bold you lot already tried Google Maps? If I zoom out to show a square box of 50 miles, I encounter about of the county and town names.

Yeah, I use Google maps all the time, but doesn't really have the scale I'm looking for.
You can figure out the altitude using the calibration given ( 1 inch=10 miles, or whatever) but you can't actually "set up" it and so take circle drawn around information technology.
This is the type of thing I accept in mind,
http://www.maps.com/radiusmaps.aspx
but Complimentary, and with greater details so that the area you want would exist a total screen

Google Earth is skilful for many things, just no and then much for my purposes here.
I actually am looking for something that might work with Google Maps, or Mapquest, or some other mapping service that already exits but has this actress functionality.

Peradventure we should invent it!

Could buy an atlas and a circumvolve template and practice information technology the quondam-fashioned mode...

I definitely agree that it would be a bully addition to the online maps.

Actually, I have done this with a printed map and atlas, and for NYC at least, you can buy 50 mile and 75 radius maps ( I think they're Rand McNally)

I call back a website would be actually handy when I don't take the forethought to do this manually

Are you looking for a map, or places to visit in certain area?

If for a map, Google Map, click on Print - to get a bigger map in another window, then increase or decrease as you like. Printing is optional.

If for places to visit, "destinations" area on any major travel website like Fodor'due south or Frommer'due south. Some of them take samples of travel if you lot have 1 day, 3 days, 5 days.

Maybe the ostensible reason for this map is the old, "Son/Daughter, I'll put yous through college, merely not exterior this circle."

Ha, ha (gulp).

Hey nstevey--That might be another mode to market it! A very practical application...

Dayenu, I'yard thinking of several uses that I mentioned in my original post
It would be handy for daytrips, overnight trips, looking for alternative airports, stops forth the way for road trips etc.

If I'm doing a road trip, and decide I want to drive another hour or 2 or v (fifty/100/250 miles) I could easily see how far I'd get and where I should await for a identify to stay.
Or, if I'm on holiday or a concern trip somewhere but I desire to get "out of town" ane day--say an hour or ii distance , then it would come in handy.

I know that each of those things tin can exist done with some planning, but I think it would exist absurd to be able to say
"Here I am--what'due south within 100 miles that I might non have idea of?"

I hate to beat a dead horse, but I guess the hotels, nutrient or tourist spots that the Google Maps search box returns for a particular zoom isn't proficient enough, yous need more details?

When I'yard on a road trip in the US, I use Google maps all the fourth dimension to detect hotels, food and retail stores. It works pretty well for me.

Not sure if it is really free but information technology came with my reckoner, Microsoft Streets & Trips allows me to find nearby places so I enter the number of miles and it draws a circumvolve on the map and then lists all of the unlike categories (airports, trains, restaurants, etc.) for more information.

This works pretty expert: zip-codes.com/goose egg-code-radius-finder.asp?

If your looking for a wider radius at once, there was some other practiced site, merely I forgot it. The site was a dwelling buyer site, so information technology might have been something like: homebuyer.com type of site, merely not that one, it gave you lot the option to list all towns inside a certain radius.

When I saw the title of ths mail service I first thought --wow someone else is looking for what I looked for and then plant. Then I realized it was my post subsequently all

Anyway, in example someone else thinks information technology'due south useful, I eventually found this
http://www.freemaptools.com/radius-effectually-point.htm

I use it exactly as I thought I would. Road trips, happen to be in a area and only want to venture out a certain distance for dsy trips etc.
It'due south just mapping, so similar everyone here says yous tin apply Google or other tools to find sights, food etc.

You found the one I was nearly to propose.

It is not slick -- yous have to make sure to apply the right scale (km, miles) and I find it hard to get the old data out before doing a new search without reloading, just it will do information technology anywhere in the world.

I oftentimes travel between 2 places almost 20 miles autonomously. I draw circles to find the common surface area for overnight stops. It works very well and suggests all kinds of interesting routes and things to see on the mode.
